20 April 2015 | Tennis ACT

It has been another outstanding month for players in the ACT, with great results across a variety of tournaments.

Alison Bai has had a great start to 2015, winning her first Pro Tour title in Mildura last month.  She backed it up with 2 more quarter final appearances at Melbourne and Mornington which has seen her rise to a career high ranking of WTA 370.  Alison then returned to Canberra where she took out the singles title at the ACT Open Platinum AMT, defeating 16 year old Alexandra Bozovic 6-2, 6-1.

A number of other Canberra players also had strong performances at the ACT Open.  After receiving a wildcard into main draw, James Frawley won through to the semi finals defeating number 4 seed Jason Taylor in the process.  Jake Okines also had a strong tournament, defeating number 2 seed Daniel Guccione on his way to the quarters.  Imogen Clews also made the quarter finals, and took out the doubles with Canberra Velocity teammate Tyra Calderwood.

At the Victorian Junior State Championships, Tallulah Farrow finished in 3rd position in the 14/u girls singles, a career best for her at a Platinum event.  She then partnered with Mia Vukicevic to take out the doubles title.  Annerly Poulos also had a strong showing, making the quarter finals of the 14/U event and finishing in 5th place overall.

The ACT had a team in the 12/U NSW Teams event in Bathurst at the end of March.  The team consisted of Nick Bisa, Oliver Sheehan, Daniel Zhang, and Erik Chen, and was managed by Brett Lennard.  The boys performed extremely well finishing in 4th position.
