Top seed Alison Bai has survived a scare, but has made it through to the final of the ACT Platinum AMT. Bai will face number 7 seed Alexandra Bozovic who defeated two higher ranked players to make it through to the final. World number 382 Matthew Barton dominated his matches on Day 4, and has only dropped 7 games on his way to the final. Barton will face number 5 seed Adam Taylor in the final, who battled through two tough three set matches.

In the Women’s quarter finals, Bai faced 16 year old Gabrielle O’Gorman, defeating her comfortably 6-3, 6-2. Bai is currently at a career high ranking of WTA 381 and coming off a series of impressive Pro Tour results including winning her first title. Number 4 seed Ivana Kafedjiyska was dominate in her quarter final win over 5 seed Alicia Smith, only dropping one game. On the other side of the draw, Canberra Velocity player Tyra Calderwood, took out Velocity teammate and Canberra local, Imogen Clews in straight sets. Alexandra Bozovic and Pamela Boyanov played the match of the day, with Bozovic upsetting her higher ranked opponent 7-5 in the 3rd set.

In the semi finals, Bai dropped her first set of the tournament, losing the first in a tiebreaker to Kafedjiyska. Bai rebounded strongly in the second taking the set 6-1. Bai continued her solid play and proved too strong for her opponent, taking the 3rd 6-3. In the other semi, number 7 seed Bozovic caused an upset defeating number 2 seed Calderwood in straight sets.

In the men’s draw, Matthew Barton lived up to his number one seeding. Barton, has just come off an impressive run at the Australian Pro Tours, winning 17 of 18 matches, including 2 titles and a runner up performance. In the quarter finals, Barton defeated Glen Dawes 6-1, 6-3. Canberra’s James Frawley had another impressive win in the quarters, taking out qualifier Pearson Dolan in 3 sets. Jake Okines impressive run came to an end against number 5 seed Adam Taylor, going down in a tough 3 setter. In the last quarter final, Nathan Doney proved too strong for David Barclay.

In the semi finals, Barton took on Frawley, with Barton playing flawless tennis. Barton ended the hopes of the last remaining Canberra player in the men’s draw, only allowing Frawley 1 game. The other semi was a stark contrast, going the distance with number 5 seed Adam Taylor defeating higher ranked Nathan Doney in a third set tiebreak.

Both the Men’s and Women’s finals will be played tomorrow at 9am at the Canberra Tennis Centre. Entry to the venue is free.
