The Ladies Midweek finals were held at Weston Creek on the 17th of March. In Division 1, despite being without May Howard the Howard team (Betty Smith, Valerie Gavin, Karen Jamieson, and Elizabeth Cox beat the previously undefeated Neal team (Brenda Neal, Daph Kennedy, Leonie Southwell, and Rosemary Scriviner). It was a hotly contested battle with the match being decided by the last set with the Howard team winning 5 sets/36 games to 3 sets/39 games.

The Division 2 final also came down to the wire with the Naulty team defeating the Grahame team by 5 sets/40 games to 3 sets/36 games. The Naulty team consisting of Marg Cotter, Julie Howe, Barb Harrop, and Mardi Naulty had finished the regular season in 4th position making their win even more impressive. The Grahame team consisted of Joan Trounce, Qian Nugent (filing in for Luana King), Leslie Winter, and Jeanette Grahame.

In the round robins, Jenny Howland and Lyn Robins won their respective draws. Congratulations to the following who were names as the best players at their respective positions.

At the luncheon, Leonie Southwell made a presentation to Barb McCluskey and Anne Haycock who are both retiring from organising midweek ladies after many years. Barb and Anne have done an outstanding job over the years. The next pennant competition will commence on the 24th of March and run until the end of June.

The Ladies Charity Day will be held of the 14th of May and the Melba and Belconnen Tennis Clubs. This year’s the day will support Lifeline who provide 24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention services.
