Word No.52 Nick Kyrgios will use the Canberra Tennis Centre as his training base for the Australian summer of tennis.  Kyrgios is under the watchful eye of coach Todd Larkham as he prepares for the Hopman Cup, Apia International, and Australian Open.  This week, Kyrgios was the first person to take to the courts at the Canberra Tennis Centre.  The overall redevelopment is a joint project between Next Generation Club Australia and Tennis ACT. The 19th of December marked the completion of the tennis facilities at the centre which have been jointly funded by the ACT Government, Tennis Australia, and Tennis ACT.

In speaking about the benefits of the new facilities in Canberra Kyrgios said “Being so close to home, I’m 5 minutes away from home here, it’s already an unbelievable facility. This is where we grew up and trained every day, so it’s exciting to have a facility like this.”

The Canberra Tennis Centre will host a large number of events in 2015, with the Australian Tennis Seniors Championships the first event to take place from January 5-16th. Approximately 800 participants from around Australia will participate in the team and individual championships over the two weeks.

The Next Generation Canberra health and leisure club is expected to be complete in mid 2015.
