Canberra Velocity is set to launch its title defence of the 2014-15 NSW/ACT Conference in the Asia Pacific Tennis League (ATL). Velocity has today released their squad for the upcoming season, which is led by teenage superstar Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios who has been part of the Canberra Velocity since its first season in 2012 is excited about the upcoming ATL season however it’s not confirmed at this stage whether he will be available for any ties. Speaking about Velocity’s season Kyrgios said “I have enjoyed playing for Canberra Velocity the past two years and look forward to supporting the team in the 2014-15 season.  It’s always a great opportunity to represent Canberra and a lot of fun playing in a team environment.  I have a busy preparation ahead of the Australian Summer of Tennis so I am still working through my availability but I will be 100% behind the team”.

The men’s team has retained the majority of last year’s squad including all four players who featured in last year’s conference final, Jake Eames, James Frawley, Robert Howe, and Alun Jones.   Eames has been having some great results at recent challenger and futures events in Australia and is currently sitting at a career high ATP ranking of 698. Velocity has also recruited Adam Feeney who played at the number 1 position for rivals Sydney Olympic Park Rebels last year. The squad also features Ryan Frawley, Todd Larkham, Dimitri Morogiannis, and Jake Okines.

The women’s squad will be led by Alexandra Nancarrow and Alison Bai who have both been experiencing some great results on the pro tour circuit. Nancarrow is at a career high WTA ranking of 385 having slashed her ranking since the start of this year by over 500 spots. She took out her first pro circuit victory in Serbia in July this year and has won an impressive 10 doubles titles in 2014. Bai is coming off some solid showings at events on the Australian pro circuit tour having made the quarter finals at 3 events recently. Bai is currently sitting at 502 on the WTA rankings. Tyra Calderwood will be back for her 3rd season with Velocity and will look to continue her good form for the team. Ashley Keir is currently recovering from injury and at this stage is unlikely to play. Imogen Clews and Maria Vais are also likely to play a crucial role for Velocity.

The first round of the ATL will commence on Friday the 21st of November in Wollongong.
