Congratulations to all players who competed in the Win A Wildcard event held at Melba Tennis Club on Saturday the 11th of October.  The Melba Tennis Club committee and volunteers were out early setting up the venue and preparing to put on a fantastic event.  Some exceptional tennis skills were on display as players competed for a chance to head to Melbourne and play for a Wildcard into the 2015 Australian Open Mixed Doubles.

First up in the morning was the Set Grade (B Grade) event, which was taken out by Asheek Khan and Penny Phung who narrowly defeated Henry Baumeister & Narelle Sykes 4-2 in the final. Khan and Phung will now have the chance to compete for the B Grade title in Melbourne. “We are from Melbourne so we are very excited to head home to compete” said Phung.

The Match Grade (A Grade) players then took to the court for an exciting afternoon of hard fought tennis. The Match Grade event was won by crowd favourites from Melba Tennis Club, Christian Parker and Sarina Kang. Parker and Sang defeated Jake Lalliard and Izzy D’Ambrosio 4-1 in the final. Parker believes “the competition in Melbourne will be tough” but he is looking forward to the challenge.

The Melba event was the first of two tournaments to be held in Canberra, with the second event set to take place on Sunday the 19th October at Mpowerdome in Fadden.
