Finals Day:

On Tuesday 22 March 2011 the finals of the Women’s Midweek was played at Weston Creek. Rain on the Monday had made the finals doubtful but we were able to get through the finals and the round robins thanks to the wonderful cooperation of our ladies.

In Div1 the Smith Team  of May Howard, Betty Smith, Judy Lebang , and Sharyn Hill defeated the Gell Team of Leonie Southwell, Val Gavin, Allyson Gell and Rosemary Scrivener .Div2 was won by the Howe Team of Joan Trounce, Robin Bailey, Julie Howe, and June Bobbin over Cowie represented by Ashlyn Farrelly, Michelle Vietch, Sue Cowie and Maureen Lancaster. Both matches were contested in a friendly sportman’s like way.

Prizes for the best player at each position went to No1 May Howard:No2 Marg Harrigan  and Betty Smith: No 3 Allyson Gell :No4 Janice Schroder and the ageless June Bobbin. June is a great advertisement for playing tennis as she turns 85 in July and is still fiercely competitive and wonderfully fit.

The round robins were won by  Pauline Jenkins and Peta Hoff in Division 1: Vivien Meagher and Merran Hunter in Division 2: and Alice Brueggner and Luana King in Division 3. Well done Alice we wish you well for your back surgery at the end of March.

A special presentation was made to Jewell Hall and Annette Cochrane who are both injured and would love to be playing. Nice to see Jenny Howland and Wendy Parker back at least eating lunch after their respective surgeries. The ladies  provided a beautiful bring a plate lunch and a good time was had by all.

The Winter Comp  begins on 5 April .Good Luck to all competitors.
